SAYS Team Community Development has organized a significant workshop named ‘Are You Prepared For Disaster?’ focusing on SDG 11 (Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable) and SDG 13 (Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts) on 2 November’ 2016 at Udayan Higher Secondary School, Dhaka with a tagline ‘Wishing will not keep you safe, Safety will’. A team consisting of 6 senior experts from Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence was present in the event. Mohammad Mojammel Hoque, Principal of training complex of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence started his presentation on disaster management which covered Fire situation, Earthquake, what measures should be taken and how steps could be effectively implemented during these disasters. Later, Nizam Uddin, Trainer of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, took a session for practical training where students got the opportunity to experience the equipment, fire extinguisher. SAYS Team conducted a survey session among the students. Furthermore, the students gained knowledge on climate issues and the detrimental effects of climate change. They made a commitment to disseminate their learning on disaster management, sustainable cities and climate issues among community people so that a lives of community people can be safe and people can achieve the knowledge of combatting disasters and climate induced hazards.
